New Puppy Kringle!

Merry Christmas!!!
If you ask the Green kids what was their favorite Christmas present this year, they will all tell you that the new puppy Kringle is their favorite.
This picture was taken at 9 a.m. on Christmas morning after the puppy was delivered to our house.

We named her Kringle after the Danish pastry that we eat for breakfast every Christmas morning.
She's extremely active but she's still a baby (13 weeks) so she sleeps a lot. Here she is taking a nap with Abel.

We think that Kringle is a Corgi/lab mix, but we're not sure. She was part of a litter of 9 puppies that was going to be put down, but the entire litter was rescued.
She likes eating the bottom of the Christmas tree.
Everyone adores her... :D

Kringle has already started Kindergarten and is learning to sit. Alexander is her Junior Trainer.
We love Kringle!
Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year!

Rally w/ Sarah Palin!

Yesterday the Greens went to Leesburg, VA to see Sarah Palin at the rally!
It was very exciting to see her and hear her speaking.

We got 12 signs at the rally and now have 13 signs in our front yard.

Our time at camp...

We had some tragic accidents happen while we were at camp on Lake Champlain last month.

Alexander fell off of a cliff.

Elizabeth was squashed by a rock.

Our friend Jacob gallantly tried to pull her out but it didn't work.

Summer swim

All 12 Green kids did the summer swim team this year and they all did very well! Saturday was the swim championships!

Timothy cut 15 seconds off of his 100 IM in an earlier meet, and swam it very well in the championships.

Here is our whole team- the Stonebrook Stingrays!  Our team was the proud winner of the championships.

Hannah, Susannah and our friend Will stayed cool under the lifeguard chair and watched the races.

Field trip to DC

We love living so close to Washington, DC!
On our last trip to DC, Dad got us tickets to go up into the Washington Monument-what an amazing view!

Sign-waving for our candidate!

Frank Wolf for Congress!
The Green family spent their Sunday morning (before church) a few weeks ago supporting a candidate for Congress whom we think is a great man!
We stood on a corner with our signs and waved and smiled at everyone who drove past.
It was a fun learning experience and valuable to the children to recognise the importance of being involved with politics.

Camp

After our week at the Lodge, we spent a week at our cottage on Lake Champlain- we call it camp.  We caught frogs, boated some more, went on walks and played games.

Here is one of the tiny little leopard frogs that the kids caught.

How would you feel if you were a fly and you saw this sight??

Alexander had fun taking the kids out in the rowboat powered by the 1 horsepower engine. Eventually it ran out of gas.

We spent a lot of time playing games at camp. One of our favorite games: Settlers of Catan (w/ cities and knights). It takes about 4+ hours to complete one game, but it's a lot of fun!

Here is Pop teaching the puppies to play pounce.  The game they played went about 1/10 as fast as it should have gone but they had a great time.

Dominoes!

The rope swing at camp is one of our favorite spots.

Dad gave huge pushes!

At a spot on the beach, there was a large field of ferns.  We took some individual pictures of a few of the kids.  Here is Sarah (today is her 16th birthday! Be sure to wish her happy birthday!)

Timothy got clay all over him.

And Caroline...

And Susannah by the fallen tree!

Boating, croquet, and ducklings

The last two weeks, we went to the Lodge again, and had a great time boating, playing croquet, finding baby ducks and being with the family!

In the parking lot, we saw this license plate and had to take a picture.  Underneath "ABEL" it says the "GREEN" mountain state.  :)

We spent a lot of time canoeing, kayaking and paddle boating on Mirror Lake. Here are Mom and Susannah.

When Mom, Timothy, Susannah and Emily went out in the paddle boat, they found a duckling stuck in the mud on a little island. It was on its back and struggling violently and it couldn't get out of the mud.  We think that it had recently hatched and couldn't keep up with its mother, then hurt its leg when it was stuck in the mud.

We brought it back to the beach and couldn't figure out what to do with it since we couldn't take it back the lodge and all the vets and animal shelters were closed for memorial day.
Then Officer Blin arrived! An animal rights man called the police to come pick up the duckling and take it somewhere safe.  Dad found it hilarious that the Lake Placid police would come pick up a duckling, and we all were glad the duckling story had a happy ending.

On Wednesday, our family went hiking with our grandparents, Aunt Joanna and cousins. We hiked up Mount Joe and it was the perfect hike!  The hike was relatively short and the view at the top was amazing.

Here are all of us after succesfully climbing the mountain! We were especially proud of Thomas, our 3 year old cousin who climbed it with an arm in a cast and no complaining! Yay for Thomas! :)

Later in the week, some of the kids and Dad played croquet.  Timothy won the game!

Whiteface Lodge Pictures

(on the ice skating rink- picture taken by Nils Schlebusch)

At the end of February, the Green family went to Lake Placid, NY for a very fun and much needed vacation!
While we were there, the Empire State Winter Games were going on, so we watched figure skating, ice-hockey and ski jumping!
Here we are in front of the ice-skating rink.  That evening we watched "Miracle" which  is an excellent movie.

We stayed at the Whiteface Lodge which had an outside pool and hot tub. Here are the girls lying on the snow-covered recliner chairs just after getting out of the hot tub.  (It was Dad's idea.)

The boys wanted a picture of them braving the 5 inches of snow too.

~Hannah, Elizabeth, Timothy, Mom and Sarah in the steamy hot tub~

~Abel, Emily, Alexander, Caroline and Susannah in the pool~

We also went snow shoeing on the paths behind the Lodge. Not all of the kids enjoyed it and there was a fair amount of complaining.

More snow shoeing.  The woods were beautiful!

We made Dad do it too.

Everyone in the hot tub!
